IMD :: Observation of 24-Mar-2011


♦  Fairly widespread rainfall occured over Andaman & Nicobar Islands, scattered over Gangetic West Bengal and  Arunachal
Pradesh and isolated over Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala and
Orissa. Weather remained mainly dry over rest of the country.  Chief amounts of rainfall (in cm) recorded at 0830 hours IST of
today are: Cherrapunji­ 5, Bagati, Halflong and Nancowry­ 3 each, Port Blair, Midnapur and Keonjhargarh­ 2 each and Passighat,
Tezpur, Jorhat, North Lakhimpur, Panalur and Long Island­ 1 each.
♦  Minimum temperatures are above normal by 2 to ­3°C over some parts of plains of northwest, central and northeast India and
normal over remaining parts of the country.
♦  Maximum temperatures fell by 5­ to 7°C over Chhattisgarh and by 2 to ­3°C over parts of Maharashtra, Orissa, Haryana and
north Rajasthan and changed little over rest parts of the country. They were above normal by 2 to ­3°C over parts of Punjab,
Haryana and Uttar Pradesh and near normal over rest of the country.

The highest maximum temperature of 40.0°C was recorded at Anantpur (Andhra Pradesh) in the country
