    MONSOON WATCH

    · The Northern Limit of Monsoon (NLM) continues to pass through Lat.15.0°N/ Long.60.0°E, Lat.15.0°N/Long.70.0°E, Karwar, Agumbe, Hassan, Bangalore, Cuddapah, Bapatla, Lat. 17.0°N/Long. 85.0°E, Lat. 20.0° N/Long. 92.0°E, Agartala, Dhubri and Gangtok.

    MAIN WEATHER OBSERVATIONS(Recorded during past 24 hours)

    · Yesterday’s temperatures were upto 19°C below normal over northwest India and upto 7°C below normal over northeastern states due to overcast sky and widespread rainfall.

    · The highest maximum temperature of 45.8°C was recorded at Sambalpur (Orissa).

    · Widespread rainfall has occurred over Himachal Pradesh, northeastern states, Kerala, Lakshadweep and Andaman & Nicobar Islands, fairly widespread over Sub-Himalayan west Bengal & Sikkim, coastal Karnataka and coastal Andhra Pradesh and scattered over Haryana , Gengetic west Bengal south interior Karnataka, Telengana and Konkan & Goa. The chief amounts of rainfall in cm (≥ 4 cm) recorded at 0830 hours IST of today are: Cherapunji-37, Mumbai, Chandigarh, Sundernagar, Shimla, Panambur and Kozikode-7 each, Shirali and Ambala-9 each, Bhuntar, Patiala and Imphal-6 each, Coochbehar, Nancowry, Kannur, Silchar, Goalpara, Una, Diamondharbour, Rangia and Mandi-5 each and Kottayam, Tezpur, Halflong and Canning-4 each.

    Synoptic features (based on 0830 hrs IST)

    · The western disturbance over Jammu & Kashmir and neighbourhood persists as an upper air system.

    · Under influence of the upper air cyclonic circulation a low pressure area has formed over Westcentral Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood.

    Numerical Weather Prediction (NWP) Guidance

    · Intensification of monsoon flow over Arabian Sea, south peninsular India and Bay of Bengal during next 3-4 days.

    Satellite Observations

    · KALPANA–1 Cloud imagery at 0830 hours IST shows convective clouds over parts of west Himalayan region, northeastern states, south peninsular India, east Arabian Sea, Northeast & Southwest Bay of Bengal and Andaman Sea. Low/medium clouds are seen over parts of plains of northwest India and east, central & west India.

    Major features of weather forecast (upto 0830 hours IST of 12th June 2010).

    · Fairly widespread rain/thundershowers would occur over Kerala, Lakshadweep, Coastal & South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Konkan & Goa, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim and northeastern states.

    · Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Rayalaseema and Telengana during next 24 hours and increase thereafter.

    · Scattered rain/thundershowers would occur over Jammu & Kashmir, Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand. After 24 hours rainfall activity will decrease over Himachal Pradesh and Uttrakhand.

    · Maximum temperature will increase by 6-8°C over parts of northwest India during next 48 hours.

    Warning.

    · Isolated heavy rainfall would occur over northeastern states, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh and Andaman & Nicobar Islands during next 48 hours.

    Weather Outlook (upto 0830 hours IST of 14th June, 2010)

    · Fairly widespread rainfall activity would occur over Madhya Maharashtra, Konkan & Goa, Coastal Karnataka, Kerala, Lakshadweep, northeastern states and Andaman & Nicobar Islands.
