Going to be DRY

Here take a look at the percipitation forecast for the coming mid-week... looks very sad for this time of year.
Going to be a BAD Monsoon.
Chennai should get 350MM of rainfall for the month of November, but as of now we have got only 33.6MM... boo that's only 10%.

'D' Moving North and Getting dry here

Today morning it was clear!
Then some thin clouds... Absolutely no sign of RAIN, this is bad for the Chennai people.
"No rain during this season" meaning... drinking water problem will come to chennai before April.
Already i can see the water table is going down, normally during this time of year the water table will be at the maximum.

In my next blog i'll try and get the details of current levels in water supply lakes around Chennai.

Latest on the Depression

We are tracking a depression system which is lying on the south-east bay.
As one of my reader suggested that, "the system might move in a North-North-west direction and eventually will hit orissa OR west bengal".
But i contradict that becoz we had lots of bay low pressures during the past Southwest monsoon season. My prediction is it will move in a west direction.
Only one possibility is there for moving in a nort-north-west, its because "Southwest air current is still online"... i don't know the reason. If we get the reason we'll publish it.

You can see the whirl is getting stronger.

Depression/Cyclone prediction

Here we have system over south-east bay of bengal.
It's 70% likely to form as a Depression OR Cyclone.
Take a look at the latest satellite pic...


In the above satellite pic, you can see the whirl is starting.

As of now there is NO public report abt the system from REGIONAL METEOROLOGICAL CENTRE, CHENNAI. We'll see when they'll start about the depression.
Now we cannot predict the movement of the system, it's more likely to move in a west ward OR North-west ward direction.

This may be the second system but the FIRST major one.
Hope this system crosses the North tamilnadu coast, because North-Tamilnadu is scanty of rainfall from this season till date. If the system crosses the Andhra coast the weather here will become even more dry.

It's atleast 6 days now without Rain in Chennai, and the high temperature yesterday was Hi: 31.4°C @ 12:59pm Low: 23.8°C @ 5:51am

What I love about the monsoons....

The monsoon always brings back a flood of memories of monsoons past. And so it was this time as well, bringing to mind the things one loved about this season in Chennai:
• Going to sleep with the sound of the wind and rain soothing you
• Feeling the spray of heavy rain in your face as you stand in the doorway and watch it come down
• Curling up in bed with a good book and a glass of hot chocolate on Sunday afternoons
• Hot tea and samosas at tea time on a rainy day
• Watching the rain dance on top of the parapet wall before disappearing in spray
• Cycling in the rain
• Rain holidays
• Playing a game of 'holly golly' in the rain
• Roiling cloudscapes

Northeast monsoon in Vietnam and Thailand

Fall is the time in which the Northeast Monsoon returns to South and Southeast Asia following a summer hiatus. Onset of prevailing northeasterly winds is often marked by extreme cloudbursts wherever such wind would blow, at once, from water to land and up slope. Such a setting can be found in Vietnam as well as the eastern Malay Peninsula, which is shared by Thailand and Malaysia. This week, the Thailand share of the Peninsula has been hammered by inundating outbursts of rain. One hard-hit town is Hakhon Si Thammarat, where the aggregate of rainfall since Sunday was 21.8 inches (55 cms) as of Thursday night, local time. Still high, but less extreme, was the fall of 11.2 inches (28 cms) on the island of Ko Samui. The 21.8 inches of rain almost exactly matches the normal monthly rainfall for Nakhon Si Thammarat.
