THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: After a weak spell of the south-west monsoon, the north-east monsoon too is cheating Thiruvananthapuram. The north-east monsoon too is not different. Between intermittent showers, the city has mostly remained dry even after the onset of the north-east monsoon. From October 1 to November 9, Thiruvananthapuram received only 218.2 mm of rainfall, against the normal of 357.3 mm. This is in stark contrast to last year, when Thiruvananthapuram received 80 per cent excess rainfall.
According to the Meteorological Department, dry weather will prevail in the state for three more days. “A depression has developed over the west Arabian Sea two days ago. This attracted humidity to the Oman coast. This is the reason why there is no rainfall in the state. This situation is likely to continue for three more days,” Met sources said. The south-west monsoon was weak in southern districts. Farmers are eagerly waiting for a change in the phenomenon because continuation of the dry weather could bring drought in the coming days. If the situation remains the same, then it will be accompanied by loss in agriculture and water shortage
IMD has declared Amplitude of easterly wave is low, resulting in subdued rainfall activity over

If this continues then after Andra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu will be next state to join drought list.
Karnataka and Kerala received only normal (not excess rain) this SWM.
Kerala too feels pain of eluding NE monsoon.
