South India rainfall and Heat on 10-Apr-2011


Rainfall occurred at many places over Coastal Karnataka and at a few places over South Interior Karnataka. Isolated rainfall occurred over Tamil Nadu, Kerala and North Interior Karnataka. Dry weather prevailed over Andhra Pradesh and Lakshadweep.

                Kumta (Uttara Kannada dt) recorded a heavy rainfall of 7 centimetres.

The other chief amounts of rainfall recorded in centimeters are:
            Sringeri HMS 6, Honavar and Hirekerur (Haveri dt) 5 each, Manchikere (Uttara Kannada dt), Haveri APMC, Tarikere (Chimagalur dt) and Napoklu (Kodagu dt) 4 each, Dharmasthala (Dakshina Kannada dt), Nargund (Gadag dt), Sakelshpura (Hassan dt) and Talaguppa (Shimoga dt) 3 each, Perumbavur (Ernakulam dt), Mavelikara, Mancompu and Haripad (all Alapuzha dt), Puttur (Dakshina Kannada dt), Siddapura (Udupi dt), Gokarna and Yellapur (both Uttara Kannada dt), Kalasa (Chikmagalur dt), C. R. Patna (Hassan dt), Humchadakatte (Shimoga dt), Valparai, Tuticorin and Kovilankulam 2 each and Chengannur (Alapuzha dt), Neyyatinkara (Tiruvnanthapuram dt), Mani (Dakshina Kannada dt), Kundapur and Kota (both Udupi dt), Bhatkal (Uttara Kannada dt), Karwar, Badami and Rabkhavi (both Bagalkote dt), Londa (Belgaum dt), Haveri PTO, Hadagalli (Bellary dt), Ajjampura, Balehonnur, Kammardi, Koppa, Kottigehara, N. R. Pura and Shivani (all Chikmagalur dt), Channagiri and Santhebennur (both Davangere dt), Arsikere (Hassan dt), Periyapatna (Mysore dt), Gubbi and Tiptur(both Tumkur dt) and Sivagiri (Tirunelveli dt) 1 each.

                On Sunday, the maximum temperature rose appreciably at one or two places over North Interior Karnataka, rose at one or two places over South Coastal Andhra Pradesh, fell appreciably at one or two places over North Coastal Andhra Pradesh, South Kerala, fell at a few places over Rayalaseema, South Tamil Nadu, at one or two places over Telangana and changed little elsewhere over the region.

            They were markedly below normal at one or two places over Telangana, appreciably below normal at a few places over North Interior Karnataka, appreciably above normal at one or two places over Coastal Karnataka, South Coastal Tamil Nadu, above normal at a few places rest Tamil Nadu, at one or two places over Kerala and were generally normal over the rest of the region.

                Rentachintala recorded the highest maximum temperature of 40 degree Celsius in the region.
