  1. Usually heavy rainfall is termed when the 24 hours precipitation (ending at 0830 hrs IST in India) is greater than or equal to 64.5mm. Very heavy rainfall is termed when the precipitation is greater than or equal to 124.5mm. Exceptionally heavy means when it rains
    [> or=]250.0mm
Intensity of rainfall is something different. It is the rate of precipitation per minute and usually calculated upon 15 minutes.
Now Automatic raingauges [ARG] have come and intensity with one minute precision is obtained.
