12am, Satellite IR shows convective activity over N-W quadrant, very near to N Srilanka tip and some light showers also seen pushing into central,  S-E Tamilnadu coast as well.

Position is now around 9.1N , 81.2 E
ADT analysed pressure around 1008 mb.
US Navy suggests pressure around 996mb.
Winds gusting to 60/70 kmph.

Latest microwave imagery suggests that exposed center of system is slowly degrading... suggesting rapid dissipation of the system.
Still HEAVY rain expected for S-E coast, S,S-central Tamilnadu from evening of today (Monday).
Scattered HEAVY rain is still forecast for Kanyakumari, Tuticorin, Tirunelveli districts of Tamilnadu on Monday night, Tuesday and into Wednesday.
NO rain expected for N,N-coast Tamilnadu and #Chennai.

Analysis suggest a good system with less convective activity.
Present position is 9.3N, 81.7E.
Pressure dropped to 993mb according US NAVY analysis, but ADT analysis suggest pressure around 1006mb.
Wind analysis at 5:30am suggest a good wind wrapping around the center.

Visible at 9:30am suggests, good convective activity over its N-W quadrant, exposed center and less activity over other quadrants.

Most of the models agree to W-S-W movement from now on, making landfall along N-N-E Srilanka by tonight and the remnant to emerge over Gulf of Mannar.
HEAVY rain and high winds upto 60kmph expected over most of N,N-E Srilanka during next 24 to 36 hrs.
Moderate rain, high winds expected over Karaikal to Rameswaram zone during next 24hrs.
Scattered Heavy rain expected along Gulf of Mannar belt and into S,S-central Tamilnadu from evening of Monday.

Present location is around 9.2N, 83.5E.
Winds gusting to 55 kmph.

Present upper level winds suggest the System to drift West or even W-S-W during next 48hrs and make landfall as Depression along S-E and central Tamilnadu coast on Monday evening !
If this happens, NO or less rain expected for N.Tamilnadu coast and #Chennai on 5,6,7-Jan.
HEAVY rain with high winds expected over N,N-E Srilanka on Sunday, Monday. FLOODs possible.

Latest analysis of 01B suggests that it has further intensified into DEEP Depression ... pressure around 996mb.

Synoptic Situation as on Friday 3rd Evening and Outlook for Weekend, 4th/5th Jan:

1. A UAC formed in the upper trough over Gujarat will descend to lower levels and move nto a NE trough around  MP and UP. 

Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th, the resultant effect will be light rains in Northern MP in Guna, Satna, Rewa and Gwalior regions and adjoining UP regions of Hamirpur, Jhansi and Kanpur. 

Delhi NCR will have some scattered clouds on the weekend...specially Saturday. Will keep the day around 19/20c and nights around 7/8c.

Cold conditions prevail in Rajasthan and Punjab, with near 0c temps.

2. Western Disturbance J-1 will move into Pakistan from the West on 7th January. Before that, rains expected in Dubai and Muscat on Monday/Tuesday

3. The Well Marked Low area in te Southern Bay will deepen and intensify (BB-1),and weaken. Heavy rains over Sri Lanka and Southern TN regions on the weekend. BB-1 will move into Thanjavur region and weaken. Rainfall in southern TN and isolated in TN. Chennai will be cloudy with some occasional showers on the weekend.

Bangalore will be partly cloudy, with very light drizzles in some parts, with a temperature range of 27-16c.
