Again it shows a different pattern in SWM rainfall. It is unusual that Mumbai is getting this much of rainfall in June. Once Augumbe, Chinna Kallar etc [which all situated below 15 Degree North] are said to be the gate way of SWM. Those times the winds were exactly from WEST with force ranging from 15 to 20 kts. But it is not happening in this current 2010 SWM. One noteworthy point it the strength of SWM winds above 15 Degree North and with great vigor it hits Maharashtra Coast. July is the representative month of SWM. But I hope again the SWM current above 15-18 Degree parallel is gaining strength and blowing in exactly SWly direction giving more rainfall in the northern parts of west coast.

  2. Bangalore totally dry and hot, no rain during june. Infact Bombay 12 days june rain (approx 1000m) is equal to Bangalore 3 years of rain! In fact rains in Bangalore is decreasing every year due to total loss of trees and no effort being made for plantation.

Trough off Maharashtra coast, if it moves closer, then Mumbai will receive another 800m by june end. Making total 1800mm! for 1 month.

  3. Not much addition to the June total possible now. I've mentioned in my blog yesterday. Sat/sun should be quite dry, with just an addition of 30 mms cumulative.
And this is very sporadic rain. Colaba is 920, S'Cruz is 650, and the lakes supplying water to Mumbai have recieved an average of 500 mms between them !
